'I've been doing law enforcement for 25 or 26 years now, ' Williams said in an interview.
Jones's bond was set at $500,000. "I've been from St. Louis to here and some of the most horrific scenes that I've seen in law enforcement involve children", Williams said. "The hardest part ... is to see a child victim".
MS officials are investigating after a girl was found dead inside a heated oven Monday. The grandmother's name is not being released because no formal charges have been filed at this time. The body has been sent for an autopsy. Police in turn called the sheriff's department and others for assistance. Deputies arrived at a home on Martin Luther King Drive and found the baby inside.
"Dark days such as these can only be brightened when justice is served", Bolivar County Sheriff Kelvin Williams said on Tuesday regarding the incident.
Authorities said they had no information about the circumstances leading up to the child's death. Williams said those toys had belonged to the child.
"That's hard to say", Williams said.
Mitchell didn't immediately return a phone call and an email seeking comment Tuesday. "We have no idea at this point", Sheriff Williams said. "The child was found inside of the oven in the residence". A family member came home and saw that something had happened.
"It's a baby. It's an innocent child".
The grandmother isn't now charged but Williams describes her as being in custody.
