Sixers finalizing trade for Timberwolves star Jimmy Butler

The 76ers Trade for Jimmy Butler; Now Serious Threats to Win the East

BREAKING: Minnesota Timberwolves Trade Jimmy Butler to 76ers

He sat out the Timberwolves' game against the Jazz on Wednesday with no guarantee he would play for Minnesota again, The Athletic reported at the time.

Jimmy Butler finally got his wish.

ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski and Zach Lowe reported Saturday that Philadelphia is sending Dario Saric and Robert Covington to Minnesota in a package for Butler.

But according to an ESPN report, Thibodeau eventually came to the conclusion that the Butler drama was indeed too big of a distraction and made a decision to pull the trigger on a deal.

As I wrote in October, the 76ers needed to be aggressive in Butler trade talks as he reportedly had "eyes for them".

While Kawhi Leonard was the first superstar to request a trade over the summer, he was joined shortly after by a disgruntled Jimmy Butler.

The 76ers add a four-time All-Star to an already promising roster headlined by Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons. Minnesota just finished an 0-5 road trip with a loss in Sacramento on Friday night and is 4-9 overall - winless in eight games on the road.

Almost two months after requesting to be sent out of town, Jimmy Butler has finally been traded.

Despite all this, Butler has shared a mutual admiration with Wolves president/coach Tom Thibodeau, who attempted on repeated occasions to keep Butler to have a change of heart and remain in Minnesota. There are also concerns, though they clearly didn't put off Philadelphia. He's on pace this season to average at least 20 points for the fifth consecutive year.
