It's still unclear what the nicknames will be for these teams, although the XFL's first run in 2001 included franchises in a few of these cities.

Today's big reveal fell in line with a report from last week which caught a potential leak on the XFL website, listing the phone numbers for eight league headquarters in different cities around the country.

It's kind of hard to believe that the XFL is coming back in 2020, but with each passing day, we get a little closer to Vince McMahon's second attempt at starting a professional football league.




In October, XFL Commissioner Oliver Luck said the league had no plans to resurrect original team names and identities. He said research indicates fans want more football, and they want to give it to them.

Also, the league said tickets will have an "affordable price" but the ticket price range was not announced.

The inaugural XFL season will take place on the weekend of February 8-9, 2020 - the week following Super Bowl LIII. Murphy confirmed that a third football team will be utilizing the stadium when the XFL returns in 2020. The XFL is now testing out elements of its format with junior college football teams to solidify a final on-field product. The league will start with eight teams, 45-man active rosters and a 10-week regular-season schedule, with a postseason consisting of two semifinal playoff games and a championship game.
