It is thought that "Close Friends" will encourage the everyday user to post more personal content, that they might not wish to share with all their followers, meaning more content will be posted to the platform. Previously, Stories could be seen by all your followers but the new feature now allows you to create a list of select friends who can see your Stories.
On Thursday, YouTube began rolling out a mobile platform feature reminiscent of the highly-trendy Snapchat Stories, a feature that basically all the most popular social media platforms have created their own version of.
Now, you can make a close friends list and share stories with just those people.
In October, Instagram appointed long-term insider Adam Mosseri as the head of the photo-sharing app following the high-profile exits of the photo-sharing app's co-founders Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger. To add a friend to this particular type of a list, go to your profile section, open the side menu by tapping on the menu button at the top right and select the "Close friends" entry.

The story poster, though, can only respond with either an image or a video. There is also a column for "Your List" that shows users who's already on their list. "With Close Friends, you have the flexibility to share more personal moments with a smaller group that you choose".
New YouTube and Instagram features can help PR and marketing pros looking to increase engagement and stand out from competitors online. The feature is being rolled out globally. To add them, tap the "Add" icon in front of the username. Tap on Close Friends. Currently, there's no limit to the number of friends you can add to this list.
Capture or select the media you want to share as stories. If one of their followers has added them to a list, a green badge will appear when they are viewing stories.
