And if you're not quite ready to drop money on a new gaming platform, Epic Games has you covered. "Epic takes 12%. And if you're using Unreal Engine, Epic will cover the 5% engine royalty for sales on the Epic Games store, out of Epic's 12%". Definitely get on that even if you just install it and have no other plans for the Epic Store. Every two weeks throughout 2019, the store will also feature one free game, starting with Subnautica on December 14 to 27 followed by Super Meat Boy on December 28 to January 10. Host of The Game Awards, Geoff Keighley stated, "Thursday during don't miss a Fortnite announcement and world premiere from Epic's Donald Mustard". That's regardless of how much their game sells, or how big the studio is. Darksiders 3, Subnautica and Super Meat Boy are all scheduled to launch on the service later this month, too, which brings us nicely onto the Free Game Initiative. Only five additional games are available for purchase right now with more being listed as "coming soon". Specifically, early adopters of the platform will be able to pick up new games like Ashen, Hello Neighbor: Hide and Seek and Hades, which is available through early access.
Of course, Epic Games' store has a long way to catch up with Steam's catalog. That's not necessarily abad thing. Journey, the highly acclaimed PlayStation exclusive, is also due to release for the first time on PC via the Epic Games Store, though we don't know yet when that will be.
Our focus during Early Access will be on making Hades the best game possible.
Epic said it would charge less commission for listing games, so more cash would be returned to developers. For now though, it's frankly a nice break from the cacophony of distractions and attention grabbers everywhere else on my computer and the internet.
