‘Klopp of the Alps?’ I’m my own man says Southampton boss Hasenhuttl

Ralph Hasenhuttl steps in at Southampton till 2021

Southampton appoint Hasenhuttl as manager

Southampton have confirmed the appointment of Ralph Hasenhuttl as their new manager.

A new coach will take the team tomorrow, and the agreement was signed two and a half years.

But by then they were already three goals down, with Harry Kane, Lucas Moura and Son Heung-min on the scoresheet for Spurs.

'I can't guarantee you how many results we will earn for that. Southampton have scored the fourth fewest goals this season have allowed the fourth most.

The new Saints boss is determined to improve the squad through hard work, rather than just wait for the January transfer window to open. Danish midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg saw one stunning effort pushed on to the post by Lloris before Nathan Redmond saw his deflected shot come off the bar.

"While we're here the fans have been fantastic".

Insisting he will look to continue the club's record of promoting from the academy, Hasenhuttl said: "We've just had a look at the players we have now; I want to bring them to their limits".

Southampton's next fixture is at relegation rivals Cardiff.

"This managerial change offers us a fresh start and, very quickly, Ralph emerged as our ideal candidate".

Hasenhuttl's lack of Premier League experience is an obvious concern but you don't finish runners-up to Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga without having something about you.

Southampton (P13, W0, D7, L6) are now on their longest winless run in all competitions since October 1998 (also 13 matches).

Last season under Hasenhuttl, Leipzig played in the Champions League for the first time and subsequently reached the Europa League quarter-finals.

The new Southampton boss makes his Premier League bow in Cardiff against Warnock, a man who has overseen more than 1500 games on these shores.

Kane has been directly involved in nine goals in his last seven Premier League games against Southampton, scoring seven times and laying on a further two assists.

Southampton chairman Ralph Krueger said: "The urgency to find a path back to our potential and to the results that we expect can not be underestimated".
